Background
One of the largest metallurgical companies in the region requested assistance in optimizing Oracle E-Business Suite (OEBS) licensing in preparation for an upcoming Oracle License Audit.
The company had one of the largest OEBS implementations in the world, using the product suite across all operational divisions.
Challenge
The customer had heavily customized OEBS modules for its specific business needs.
Oracle requested a mapping between customized modules and the corresponding standard OEBS modules — a requirement the customer could not fulfill.
The third-party implementer hadn’t documented this mapping, and internal IT specialists were unfamiliar with licensing nuances.
Incorrect mapping could significantly increase licensing costs and audit exposure.
Actions
- Usage assessment — Evaluated OEBS usage in alignment with Oracle LMS methodology and identified potential non-compliance
- OEBS clean-up — Eliminated redundant users, reassigned them to correct modules, and removed unnecessary access rights in line with Oracle procedures
- Usage optimization — Provided actionable recommendations to eliminate compliance risks and minimize cost
- OEBS mapping report — Created a detailed mapping document linking custom modules to Oracle standards for future license management
- License Audit Defense — Supported the customer throughout the Oracle License Audit (OSW forms, evidence set, responses)
Results
- Before the project, OEBS license shortfall across modules exceeded USD 10 million
- After optimization, all identified shortfalls were eliminated (net zero shortfall)
- The customer avoided approximately USD 10 million in additional licensing costs
- The Oracle License Audit was successfully completed with no claims from Oracle
